Denver Steak Ingredients

  • 4 Denver Steaks, around 1-inch thick
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 8 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons dried thyme
  • Salt to taste

Denver Steak Directions

  1. First thing first. Start with knowing what is Denver steak? It is a well-marbled cut of beef. Denver Steak is cut from the serratus ventralis muscle, located underneath the shoulder blade bone. These steaks are usually around 1 inch thick and weigh somewhere between 12 and 14 ounces. You can cut the steak in half before grilling. Let them thaw in the refrigerator overnight before grilling.
  2. Now that you’ve got the basics of what is a Denver steak, let’s move on to preparing a marinade. Take a medium bowl and put olive oil, garlic, thyme, paprika, and salt into it. Mix them well. Pat the Denver steak dry with a paper towel and place it in a larger bowl. Now, pour the marinade over the top and leave it for some time. If you don’t have enough time to marinate, you can serve the Denver steak with the Chimichurri Sauce. However, marinating is advised since it makes the meat more flavorful and tender.
  3. It’s time to season the steak. Seasoning is mandatory for all Denver steak recipes, whether you are serving these steaks with Chimichurri sauce or with garlic herb butter. Take the Denver steak out of the marinade. Season both sides of the steak with pepper and salt.
  4.  You must season the meat just before cooking, as it allows the flavors to penetrate the meat and enhances its taste throughout. Seasonings, like salt and pepper, have a tenderizing effect on the meat, thus allowing the steak to become more tender and juicy.
  5. Preheat the grill until it sizzles when you add a drop of oil. Consider using olive oil, as it protects the steaks from becoming overcooked while adding a crispy texture to the surface. Place the Denver Steak on the hot grill and cook until it becomes lightly charred on both sides. Reduce the heat to medium once after the golden crust has formed. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side for medium rare. Do not overcrowd the cooking base. Place only a couple of medium-sized steaks and cook them to perfection.

Always cook Denver Steaks by temperature and not time. You can use the meat thermometer to ensure accuracy. Below are mentioned the final doneness temperatures.

  • Rare: 125°F – 130°F
  • Medium Rare: 130°F – 140°F
  • Medium: 140°F – 150°F
  • Medium Well: 150°F – 160°F
  • Well Done: 160°F

Be mindful that the Denver Steak will continue to come up to temperature as it’s resting. Hence, you should remove it from the grill when it’s around 5 degrees away from the perfect doneness.

  1. Once done, remove the steak from the grill and place it on a plate. Allow it to rest for 5 minutes. Finally, slice, serve, and treat yourself to tender, juicy Denver Steaks.
